Edmonton Waste Management Centre decided to replace their landfill with an Integrated Processing and Transfer Facility in 2009 that would allow them to divide municipal waste into three streams – composting, biofuels production and landfill. EWMC needed to find a reliable trommel to open their garbage bags, as well as accurately separate the material. They reached out to McLanahan, who designed two 120-ton Rotary Trommel Screens with spikes for tearing open the garbage bags. With the Rotary Trommel Screens, EWMC is able to better recover their composting material. The trommels also separate the material to send to EWMC’s Waste-to-Biofuels Facility.
