Nutrient Separation System Helps Dairy Producers Meet Environmental Regulations

HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa., June 5, 2014 – Since forming its Agricultural Systems Division in 1996, McLanahan Corporation has been committed to improving the social, environmental and economic sustainability of the dairy industry through manure handling solutions. Engineered to be a safer, simpler and smarter solution for producers, the McLanahan Nutrient Separation System reduces the cost and liability associated with manure management.

Recognizing the unique needs of each dairy, McLanahan tailors each system as a flexible and robust process to maximize the value of nutrients and water. By separating and concentrating nutrients, this system allows field application of those nutrients where and when needed. Separated clean water can then be land irrigated, re-used or even discharged into a water source.

The Nutrient Separation System uses proven technologies to separate nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium from the manure stream and control odor. By removing water and concentrating the nutrients, there is less water to haul to fields, greatly reducing road hauling issues and material handling costs.

Prior to the launch of the system, McLanahan conducted extensive testing and on-site research to ensure that each Nutrient Separation System can be customized to a producer’s nutrient management plan. Additionally, producers utilizing existing Sand Separation Systems will find the Nutrient Separation System simple to integrate into the existing technology.

“We’ve helped dairy producers with their manure management challenges for years with our Sand-Manure Separation and Liquid-Solid Separation Systems,” said Andrew Wedel, General Manager of McLanahan’s Agricultural Systems Division. “The Nutrient Separation System is continuing that trend with technology that is going to help producers meet the tough environmental regulations coming their way, while still allowing them to use sand bedding.”

McLanahan Corporation manufactures safer, simpler and smarter equipment that helps producers do more than ever in today’s tough marketplace. From primary crushing to water management, McLanahan custom engineers process solutions to help you be more efficient, more productive and more profitable.
