Drag & Reclaim Feeders

Drag and Reclaim Feeders can be used in a variety of applications, but they are primarily designed to convey material to or from a piece of crushing equipment . These types of feeders can also be used to reclaim coal and other minerals from a stockpile using a dozer as well as to eliminate the hopper requirements for an application.

How Drag And Reclaim Feeders Work

Drag and Reclaim Feeders feature engineered style chain with connecting flight bars designed to convey material along the deck. The feeders are powered by a drive system mounted on a head shaft. Either an electro-mechanical drive or a hydraulic drive system can be used to drive the conveyor. A low-profile design feed area allows Drag and Reclaim Feeders to be easily charged by dozers, FEL’s and trucks. 

Drag and Reclaim Feeders are well-suited for surface mining operations that need to move ROM or stockpiled free-flowing materials such as coal, lignite, trona, salt, petroleum coke, bauxite, copper and gypsum.

Typically tied into the operation of a downstream conveyor, Drag and Reclaim Feeders do not require an operator, making them a safe and simple part of the material handling process.

McLanahan Drag and Reclaim Feeders are designed specifically for each application to provide a safe and simple means of conveying free-flowing material. Each Drag Feeder and Reclaim Feeder is supplied with an emergency stop to halt all motors, as well as fault detection to monitor momentary or self-resetting faults if encountered.

Optional safety design features on McLanahan Drag and Reclaim Feeders include a dust suppression system that allows water to flow onto material to control the level of dust; an automatic or manual fire suppression system available in chemical or water deluge and wired to shut down the machine electrically in the event of a fire; access door safety locks to prevent the machine from starting or automatically shut down the machine when an access door is detected to be open; and automatic lubrication.

McLanahan also offers an optional hand-held remote-control feature which transmits signals to a receiver mounted on the HPU to provide a convenient way to start and stop the equipment as well as vary the speed of the conveyor.

McLanahan Drag Feeders and Reclaim Feeders are tailored to meet each application. Depending on the application and machine width, chain sizes of 3.5”, 4.5” and 6” pitch are used. These feeders can handle large capacities and are able to handle up to 6,000 tph. McLanahan Drag Feeders and Reclaim Feeders are typically used for handling +1/2” material and can be operated flat or on an incline.

Drag Feeder chains require a little bit of slack on the return side to operate most efficiently. To adjust the chain, first de-energize the feeder and follow all lockout/tagout/blockout procedures to ensure no energy can get to the machine while making the chain adjustment.

Position the hand pump on the tail side to extend and pump oil into the cylinder to relieve pressure off the shims. Insert shims to lock the cylinder in place. Position the hand pump to neutral and repeat for the cylinder on the other side of the feeder, ensuring to add the same number of shims to each side. lel from the head shaft through the tail shaft.
