Discovery Wash Plants

McLanahan’s Discovery Wash Plant is an entry-level washing solution for small to mid-size producers who want to enhance product quality and discover new markets without the need for extensive infrastructure. Designed to process 50-70 tons per hour, the Discovery Wash Plant fills the gap between simple dry processing and large-scale washing operations.

Applications

A compact, modular system that fits in a small footprint, the Discovery Wash Plant is quick to set up, easy to use and designed to produce three clean coarse aggregate products and one washed sand from a variety of feed streams, including virgin aggregate and C&D debris. With an integral conveyor for blending the sand with the aggregate stream, the Discovery Wash Plant is also ideal for those who want to create a ballast product without the hassle of manually mixing material piles.

How Discovery Wash Plants Work

The Discovery Wash Plant is composed of a Coarse Material Screw Washer, Inclined Screen, sump, Pump, Hydrocyclone, split-deck Dewatering Screen and integral sand blending conveyor. Feed from a conveyor enters the Coarse Material Screw Washer, where lightweight contamination floats out over a weir at the back and onto one side of the split-deck Dewatering Screen. There, the lightweight contaminants are dewatered and discharged into a skip container or stockpile. The Coarse Material Screw Washer cleans the aggregate and discharges it onto an Inclined Screen below. The Inclined Screen separates the aggregate into three coarse products for stockpiling, as well as a sand fraction, which is directed to a sump and pumped up to a Hydrocyclone to remove silts, clays and other deleterious material. The classified sand is then discharged onto the other side of the split-deck Dewatering Screen for moisture removal ahead of stockpiling. A flop gate in the discharge chute on the sand side of the Dewatering Screen allows for some or all of the sand to be diverted to the integral conveyor for blending with one of the coarse aggregate streams.

Why McLanahan Discovery Wash Plants

The McLanahan Discovery Wash Plant was developed to give small skip operators, C&D recyclers and compact aggregate producers an efficient, high-performance washing option in a small footprint. A highlight of the system is the integral sand-blending conveyor for creating a ballast product without having to manually blend two separate material piles, which can be a time-consuming and costly process. The sand-blending conveyor diverts some or all of the sand directly onto one of the coarse aggregate belts coming off the sizing screen, automatically creating a ballast product without the need for manual handling.

The Discovery Wash Plant is composed of all McLanahan engineered, built and field-tested equipment for the ultimate in quality and reliability, and it is backed by McLanahan’s more than 190 years of knowledge and experience. Unlike traditional wash plants that require significant space, civil works and cost, the Discovery Wash Plant is designed to ship in two to three containers or flatbed loads to enable rapid deployment and fast setup. As part of the UltraSCRUB range, the Discovery Wash Plant is a standard system that can be tailored to each site to meet product requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions About Discovery Wash Plants

Ask An Expert

The Discovery Wash Plant produces one washed sand and three clean aggregate streams, the sizes of which can be tailored to meet each site’s specifications. One of the key features of the Discovery Wash Plant is the integral sand blending conveyor, which allows some or all of the sand to be blended with one of the coarse aggregate products to create ballast material without the time and cost associated with manually mixing this product.

The Discovery Wash Plant is designed to fit in two to three containers or truckloads. It is pre-wired and pre-plumbed to allow for rapid setup.

The Discovery Wash plant comes standard with a Coarse Material Screw Washer, Inclined Screen, Hydrocyclone, sump, Pump and Dewatering Screen, but some of these components can be tailored to the site. Based on the feed material and desired product sizes, the number of paddles in the Coarse Material Screw Washer, the media in the sizing screen and the size of the Hydrocyclone can all be configured to the meet the site’s specifications.

The Discovery Wash Plant can accept a maximum lump size of 3” (76 mm); the top size is dictated by the Coarse Material Screw Washer. Larger feed sizes will either require another crushing stage or a larger wash plant, such as the UltraWASH or UltraSCRUB.

The Discovery Wash Plant is designed to be fed by a conveyor. It pairs perfectly with tracked or wheeled feeding conveyors.
