The McLanahan Slope Screen is a static liquid-solid-separation solution for dairies and other agricultural operations handling dilute manure streams. Similar to a rotary drum separator but capable of higher material processing rates, the Slope Screen provides reliable separation without moving parts, reducing maintenance requirements while improving operational efficiency. Ideal for dairies with dilute manure streams, including sand-bedded dairies, manure solids dairies and dairies using anaerobic digesters, the Slope Screen can be incorporated into both new and existing manure management systems. The McLanahan Slope Screen measures 8’ wide x 11’ long.
Slope Screens separate solids from dilute manure streams using gravity and wedge wire screen media. Manure is pumped to the feed box at the top of the screen, where it is distributed across the screen surface and allowed to flow downward. As the material travels over the screen media, liquid passes through the screen openings and exits the unit through a discharge flange, while solids are retained on the surface and conveyed to a collection area at the bottom of the screen. The recovered solids are typically still fairly wet in consistency and may be further dewatered with an optional Roll Press. The Slope Screen can be utilized for primary separation in manure systems or tertiary separation in sand recovery applications.
McLanahan designed the Slope Screen to provide dairy producers with a simple, dependable manure separation solution capable of handling high flow rates with minimal maintenance. Constructed of stainless steel and featuring wedge wire screen panels, the Slope Screen combines long equipment life with easy serviceability.
Unlike mechanical manure separators that rely on rotating or vibrating components, the Slope Screen utilizes gravity and screen media to separate solids from liquid streams. With no moving parts, operators benefit from reduced maintenance requirements and lower operating costs.
The modular design allows individual screen sections to be removed, cleaned or replaced with ease. Integrated access to both sides of the screen panels and T-handle locking mechanisms further simplify maintenance while improving operator safety.
Whether installed as a primary separator in manure systems or as a tertiary separator in sand recovery systems, the McLanahan Slope Screen offers producers a flexible, user-friendly solution that can be incorporated into new installations or retrofit existing systems.
The McLanahan Slope Screen is designed for dilute manure streams and is ideal for sand-bedded dairies, manure solids dairies and dairies utilizing anaerobic digesters. It can also be used in swine, poultry and other agricultural applications where liquid-solid separation is required. The Slope Screen can serve as a primary separator in manure systems or as a tertiary separator in sand recovery systems.
Like a rotary drum separator, the McLanahan Slope Screen separates solids from liquid streams. However, the Slope Screen utilizes a static design with no moving parts and is capable of handling higher processing rates for dilute manure applications. This simple design helps reduce maintenance requirements while providing reliable separation performance.
Routine maintenance primarily involves keeping the screen media clean and free of buildup. The modular screen panels can be pivoted upward for manual washing, providing access to both the front and back of the screen media. This design simplifies cleaning and makes panel replacement quick and straightforward when needed.
Yes. The McLanahan Slope Screen can be incorporated into new or existing manure management systems and can potentially retrofit equipment already in operation. Multiple screens can also be used together to accommodate higher flow rates, and the Slope Screen can be paired with a Roll Press for additional solids dewatering.
The McLanahan Slope Screen offers producers a simple, reliable separation solution with high process rates, easy maintenance and flexible integration into new or existing manure management systems.
