How To Change A Snap-Ring-Style Pick On A Feeder-Breaker

How To

Feeder-Breaker picks are typically held in place with snap rings or expansion rings, which facilitate the replacement of worn picks. Watch this video to learn how to change snap-ring-style picks and follow the step-by-step instructions below.

Warning:

Before performing maintenance to a Feeder-Breaker:

  • Be sure to read and follow the Installation, Operation and Maintenance Manual
  • Follow the appropriate lockout/tagout/blockout procedures
  • Read and follow all safety tags

Failure to do so could result in injury or death.

You Will Need:

  • Snap ring pliers
  • Pry bar
  • Replacement picks

Instructions:

Step 1.

Switch off the power to the Feeder-Breaker and lock the switch in the off position to ensure no power can reach the machine while changing the pick.

Step 2.

Manually rotate the pick roll to access the pick you want to replace.

Depending on the gear ratio and size of the roll, you may not be able to spin the roll by hand. If this is the case, spin the high-speed coupling by hand to rotate the roll as needed.

Step 3.

Remove the top snap ring securing the pick to the roll.

Step 4.

Remove the bottom snap ring and the pick. If the pick is stuck in the pick holder, use a pry bar to remove it.

Step 5.

Reverse the position of the snap ring pliers.

Step 6.

Insert a new pick.

Step 7.

Secure the pick with a snap ring.

Step 8.

Install a second snap ring on top of the first.
