McLanahan Concrete Slurry Pump Spares to Reduce Downtime for Concrete Sand Producer
McLanahan is shipping a 10x8 bare shaft Concrete Slurry Pump to a concrete sand producer in Nevada. It was purchased as a spare for a McLanahan Ultra Sand Plant and Ultra Fines Recovery Plant. When placed into service, the Pump will feed up to 3,900 gallons per minute of slurry to the Separator™ or bank of Hydrocyclones.
Pumps in concrete sand
Concrete sand is an aggregate material used in many construction projects. Because it must meet strict specifications for size and cleanliness before use, it is typically washed and classified at or near the quarry or dredge operation.
Pumps are often used in the washing of concrete sand, as they move fluid flow along pipelines from one part of the process to another. They accept fluid from a sump into an internal impeller. A drive rotates the impeller, which accelerates the fluid in its center radially outward into the casing. The fluid builds pressure and exits out the discharge pipe to the next piece of process equipment.

What is a bare shaft Pump?
A bare shaft Pump is a Pump that contains all the internal components but excludes the motor and drive package. These readily replaceable pumps can be swapped out with existing pumps in the field to reduce downtime.

The importance of keeping spare parts
As with all of its equipment, McLanahan advises producers to keep certain replacement parts in stock to reduce downtime in the event of a breakdown. For Concrete Slurry Pumps, McLanahan recommends that the following spare parts be kept in stock as a minimum:
- Suction side liners
- Gland side liners
- Impeller
- Gland repair kit
- Bearing repair kit
