McLanahan Partners With Georgia Compost Manufacturer

Hollidaysburg, Pa., March 25, 2026 — McLanahan has finalized the sale of a Pug Mill Mixer, Horizontal Auger and Inclined Auger to a company specializing in the manufacturing and engineering of specialty soils.

The manufacturer was looking for a solution to combine multiple waste streams before sending them to a compost building to mature. McLanahan’s team of engineers were able to recommend Horizontal and Inclined Augers to convey biosolids, paired with hoppers and conveyors to transport the nitrogen source and wood waste. These pieces of equipment allow the waste material to be uniformly proportioned before being fed into the next step of the process.

The three streams of waste are then fed into a Pug Mill for mixing. The Pug Mill uses paddles that are positioned on the shafts at an angle to advance the material through the machine while blending the streams into a homogeneous mixture. As the mixture of waste materials is discharged from the Pug Mill it is then conveyed to a compost building where it will sit in stockpiles until it matures for use. This compost is then used for the establishment of planting beds and turf with sod or seed. The compost can also serve as nutrient rich mulch that retains moisture and helps prevent weed growth while slowly releasing organic nutrients into the soil to feed the plants.

“We always love the chance to show the diverse industries that our equipment can serve. Working with this producer has allowed us to meet a need they had while facing new engineering challenges. We enjoyed helping design a solution for this customer and are looking forward to supporting them throughout the life of this project,” said Dylan Heath, Regional Sales Manager – C&D Recycling for McLanahan.
