McLanahan to Showcase New Discovery Wash Plant at Hillhead 2026 – Stand J4
Moy, Northern Ireland – McLanahan Corporation will be at Hillhead 2026, taking place from 23rd – 25th June 2026 at Hillhead Quarry in Buxton, UK exhibiting on Stand J4, McLanahan, Anaconda and RubbleCrusher will be highlighting their latest solutions in crushing, screening, washing and material recovery.
At the centre of McLanahan’s presence will be the official introduction of the Discovery Wash Plant, a brand new, entry level washing solution designed specifically to enhance product quality without the need for a large footprint or large scale infrastructure.
A New Approach to Compact Washing
Developed in response to a growing demand for accessible wet processing solutions, the Discovery Wash Plant has been engineered to provide small skip operators, C&D recyclers and compact aggregate producers with a practical, high-performance washing option. The goal is to provide a washing option with a small footprint whilst also helping to improve the quality of the product offering.
Where traditional wash plants can be cost prohibitive or require significant space and civil works, the Discovery Wash Plant offers a streamlined alternative. Designed to process 50 – 70 tonnes per hour (TPH), the system bridges the gap between basic dry processing and large-scale washing operations, making it ideal for businesses looking to upgrade their output without needing acres of space to do so.
The plant is also designed with logistics in mind, shipping efficiently in just 2 – 3 containers or flatbed loads, enabling rapid deployment and reduced installation complexity and costs.
Engineered for Simplicity and Performance
Despite the compact size, the Discovery Wash Plant incorporates many different McLanahan components proven over 190 years to be efficient. Key components include:
- Coarse Material Screw Washer (CMSW) for aggregate scrubbing and cleaning
- Hydrocyclone for sand classification and washing
- Split-Deck Dewatering Screen for efficient moisture removal
- Sand Blending Conveyor for flexible product mixing
- Integrated sump and pump system
The integrated design of the Discovery Wash Plant ensures that operators can produce multiple high-quality outputs from a single, compact system.
How It Works: Efficient Material Processing
Material is fed into the system via the conveyor, entering the Coarse Material Screw Washer. Aggregates are scrubbed while lighter contaminants and some sand fractions float over the weir and are directed onto one side of the Split-Deck Dewatering Screen. These materials are then dewatered and discharged, either to stockpile or skip.
The cleaned coarse material is transferred onto the Sizing Screen, where it is separated into distinct product sizes. This multi-size capability allows operators to produce specification-grade materials suitable for a variety of applications.
The sand fraction is collected in a sump and pumped to the Hydrocyclone, where it is washed and classified. The cyclone underflow is then directed to the opposite side of the split-deck dewatering screen for final moisture removal.
A key distinguishing feature of the Discovery Was Plant is the sand blending conveyor, which allows operators to reintroduce a controlled portion of the sand product back into the coarse aggregate stream, typically onto the 10 – 20 mm conveyor. This capability enables precise product customisation to meet specific market or customer requirements.
Designed for Flexibility
While the Discovery Wash Plant is offered as a standardised solution, it also provides flexibility to adapt to varying feed materials and operational needs. As part of the UltraSCRUB range, the system can be tailored through:
• Adjustments to screen media sizes
• Modifications to the number of paddles in the screw washer for enhanced scrubbing
• Selection of cyclone sizes to suit different sand requirements
This modular adaptability ensures that each installation can be optimised for performance, regardless of the specific application.
McLanahan Advantages
As with all McLanahan solutions, the Discovery Wash Plant is backed by decades of engineering expertise and a commitment to quality. Key advantages include:
- Full maintenance access for reduced downtime
- Quality and durable components manufactured to McLanahan standards
- Good levels of wear protection for extended equipment life
- An exclusively designed sand blending conveyor
- Innovative screen design for improved separation efficiency
- Compact footprint, ideal for space-constrained sites
These features combine to deliver a system that is not only efficient but also practical and cost-effective over the long term.
