George Sidney Inducted Into Pit & Quarry Hall of Fame

Hollidaysburg, Pa., Feb. 12, 2019 – George Sidney, recently retired McLanahan President and COO, was inducted into the Pit & Quarry Hall of Fame Monday, Feb. 11, 2019. He was honored at a black-tie dinner and induction ceremony in Indianapolis, Ind., prior to AGG1 Aggregates Academy & Expo. With his induction, Sidney joins 28 other individuals enshrined in Pit & Quarry’s Hall of Fame, which celebrates those who have made significant contributions to the aggregate industry.

Sidney graduated from Penn State University in 1973 with a degree in mechanical engineering and began his career with McLanahan shortly after. Throughout his 45-year tenure with the company, Sidney held various roles, including Design Engineer, Sales Engineer, Western Region Sales Manager, Director of Engineering, Vice President and Executive Vice President, before being named President and COO in 2004.

During this time, Sidney played a key role in growing the company and its product line. Together with Mike McLanahan, who was CEO and Chairman at the time, and Sean McLanahan, who was Executive Vice President and CFO at the time, they set a goal of doubling the company in five years.

“We wound up doing it in two,” said Sidney, “and then we doubled it again in three, and then again. We’ve grown the company tremendously. We grew from one global office in Australia, which Mike McLanahan started, to three offices in Australia and an office in Santiago, Chile; two offices in India; an office in the U.K.”

During Sidney’s leadership, McLanahan also added product lines through the acquisition of Eagle Iron Works and Universal Engineering.

Sidney is active in many mining and aggregate associations, including the National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association; the Society of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers; the Wyoming Mining Association; and the Rocky Mountain Coal Mining Institute. He is a ROCKPAC Trustee who serves on the Altoona Blair County Development Corporation Board of Directors and the Penn State Alumni Board of Directors.

Although he retired at the end of 2018, Sidney remains an active member of McLanahan’s Board of Directors. He will continue to attend industry trade shows and meetings to foster relationships and network with friends he has made throughout the years.

“I have been immensely rewarded through the friendships I’ve made in the construction aggregate industry,” said Sidney. “They are a unique people. This industry attracts salt of the earth people; honest, upstanding, good people.”

Headquartered in Hollidaysburg, McLanahan Corporation has been providing processing solutions to a variety of materials handling industries for more than 180 years. For more information, visit www.mclanahan.com or contact sales@mclanahan.com.
