Why McLanahan Feeder-Breakers
McLanahan has applied the same rugged design principles to the Feeder-Breaker line as we have to our well-known crushing line and with advancements to the latest technology. McLanahan was the first manufacturer to incorporate torque limiting couplings in direct, alignment-free drives on both the conveyor and breaker systems, eliminating shear pins and chain drives. Touchscreen controls and diagnostics are included to enhance and simplify operation. These are easy to use and give valuable feedback if a fault is encountered. The control program also includes an electronic manual with drawings and schematics for easy viewing and reference. Maintenance is made simple with easy access to replaceable components and shaft assemblies that can be removed in one piece.
How Feeder-Breakers Work
The Feeder-Breaker utilizes engineering-class roller chain and solid steel flights between a sprocketed head and tail shaft to drag the material along a steel deck. The head shaft is driven hydraulically or mechanically with a shaft-mounted hydraulic motor or shaft-mounted, right angle reducer with torque control coupling. The breaker roll is driven mechanically with a shaft-mounted, right angle reducer with torque control coupling. The fabricated steel machine frame is built to withstand the toughest environments. Developed to meet safety requirements of mining, the Feeder-Breaker is a Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) approved design.
Operation of the Feeder-Breaker drag conveyor and breaker roll interlock with the downstream belt conveyor. Through the programmable logic controller, these functions are timed to shut down at designated intervals when the belt conveyor stops or when material is not present. The receiving end of the Feeder-Breaker can be designed to receive material from high volume trucks, front-end loaders, shuttle cars or at ground level fed by a dozer.
Popular Applications for Feeder-Breakers
Feeder-Breakers can accept large feed lumps of friable minerals and produce a 150mm to 300mm (6" to 12") one-dimensional product at rates up to 5400 mpth (6000 tph). Depending on the feed arrangement, these units can be designed to hold up to two to three times the load from a haulage vehicle, providing substantial storage capacity to allow the cycling of multiple haulers at optimum rates.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are some key options to consider?
Consider hydraulic or electro-mechanical drive options for the feeder.
What other technologies should I consider?
Depending on the overall head room or space requirements, you could consider a Drag Feeder or Apron Feeder to a Roll Crusher or Sizer.
How is the Feeder-Breaker fed?
You need to consider how the equipment will be fed. Will it be dozer trap design, or will the Feeder-Breaker be located under a hopper? If so, what is the capacity of the hopper, and how will it be fed? By a front-end loader? Haul trucks? What is the capacity of each?
